You are receiving this information because your pet is required to get a "fresh start" shave down haircut due to extensive matting. When the coat isn't maintained regularly, matting can form and become severe, and in some cases lead to complications during and after grooming. Please review the info below to know what signs to look for in the coming days. When you leave your pet with us for grooming, you understand we will take all measures possible to reduce any injury or risk, but that there are risks associated with shave downs due to matting.
Matted pets will be clipped short/no fluff, to spare the pet the pain of dematting. The Luck Fluff wil/Hallie Beilig will not be liable for irritation or injury resulting in veterinary care during the removal of a matted coat.
1- Leaving your dog grooming symbolizes that you understand and acknowledge that removing heavily matted coats risks minor nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to unnoticeable warts, moles, skin tags or skin folds trapped within the mats. Heavy matting often traps dirt and moisture, which promotes the growth of yeast, mold, fungus, bacteria. Burns can occur from urine and feces trapped within the fur. This causes all kinds of irritation and skin infections which may have gone unnoticed for periods of time until the grooming process exposes them. After-effects of heavy mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, as well as failure of the hair to regrow properly, or at all. Shaved pets are also prone to sunburn and must be protected from sun exposure. In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavior changes.
2- Leaving your dog grooming symbolizes that you understand and acknowledge that you are aware that if you dog’s ears must be shaved there is increased risk of ear hematomas from shaking. And that you agree to observe my pet for increased head shaking after grooming. Your groomer will inform you of how to help your dog be comfortable post groom if we suspect this could happen.
3- Leaving your dog grooming symbolizes that you understand and acknowledge that this process is time consuming and because clipping dirty, oily and pelted coats is damaging to our equipment, extra charges will incur for matted dogs ranging from $10-$50 depending on size and severity of mats and a final quote cannot be given until the dog is finished.
